Back-End Web and Applications Developer

More About Me

About Me

Allow me to introduce myself.

I am a back-end web and applications developer from St. Andrews, MB with over 20 years of experience.

I started writing code over 30 years ago in elementary school, using Logo, which was designed as a tool to teach children mathematical thinking and computational logic. My principal recognized my talent and entered me into a coding competition. I earned second place in Grade 5 and first place in Grade 6.

In junior high school, I dabbled with C++ and command line. In high school, with the evolution of schools creating computer labs, I learned Pascal.

At The Collegiate in Winnipeg in 1999, I learned Turbo Pascal and, at Red River College between 2001 - 2004, I learned so many application-based languages, including:

  • PowerBuilder
  • COBOL
  • C/C++
  • HTML
  • PHP
  • XML
  • JavaScript
  • SQL
  • Visual Basic

After graduating in June 2004, Google launched their smart-search capabilities in August of 2004, and website creation took off like never before. Up until that point, the majority of Computer Science programs were applications-baxed, and I realized that I was instantly behind where I wanted to be.

between 2006-2009, in my first "real" job in programming, I used PowerBuilder to assist maintaining the Government of Canada's Agriculture department for assistance with livestock and cattle relief in crisis years.

My next career path sent me on the road installing alarm systems between northwest Alberta and southwest Ontario, but the passion for coding and IoT made me want to learn how the alarm panels had been programmed, what programming languages had been used, and how the signals between the panels and the wireless sensors worked.

From 2012 - 2018, I worked at Modern Earth Web Design, later merged with neovation corporation, as a Junior Developer, where I learned ColdFusion, an Adobe programming language. Over 6 years, I moved into several roles, and wore several hats, including:

  • 2012-2014: ColdFusion Developer
  • 2014-2015: Quality Assurance Specialist
  • 2014 - 2016: Support Team Lead
  • 2016 - 2017: Voiceover Talent
  • 2014 - 2018: Client Coach & LMS Administrator

From 2018 - 2022, I worked at Ensemble Travel Group as a Reporting Manager & SQL Developer, using PHP with a Laravel framework and Zoho Deluge to integrate the client portal with the analytics anbd reporting product to issue monthly sales reports via API calls to Zoho. I also oversaw a team off offshore developers who were attempting to build a reporting system for airline data.

From 2025 - 2025, I worked for a start-up travel technology company where we had one primary client and 5 staff. I was the sole developer on the team, and the client's tech stack was failing exponentially fast. We raced into action and replaced 12+ applications within 2 years to support their failing architecture.
Unfortunately, I knew that I needed a break, so I waited until the majority of their tech stack was stable and operational, and then stepped away to take care of myself.

From 2026 and onwards, I have been taking time for myself, learning new languages and expanding my portfolio. I just completed a Bootstrap 5 course, which I used to help me build this website! I've always been "aware" of Bootstrap, but have never had the opportunity to use these features for myself, until now!
I have also created my own consulting company and am working on a product to launch into the market at a later date.

The languages I have learned in 2026 are:

  • Bootstrap 5
  • Ruby on Rails
  • Python (in progress)

I also plan on taking a Fullstack Developer course, in order to learn:

  • Node.js
  • React
  • MongoDB
  • JavaSCript
  • Web3

I am always learning and always striving to make myself a better developer, both for myself and for the teams I work with and interact with on a daily basis.
